Earth Girls Rn’t Easy

(PG; Romance Comedy) How did this sci-fi/slasher movie fanboy's blind date go so horribly wrong? Ask his mint-condition action figures.

Story Notes

I occasionally teach a class called Art of the Comic Book, a studio workshop for making comic books with traditional media. This story came from having to execute one of my own exercises. Based on Marvel Comics' creative process of the 1960s, my Marvel Method assignment creates a team; each student is a writer, penciller, inker and letterer of a different story.

To work, the class has to have an even number of students. This particular semester had an odd number of students. As the deadline loomed, I begrudgingly filled in the missing gap. In one month, I produced 12 pages (wrote 3, pencilled 3, inked 3 and lettered 3) — all while keeping a full time job. I've never been that prolific.

"Earth Girls R'nt Easy" was written by Alex MacLellan, pencilled by Emily Holt, lettered by Nick Little and inked by Yours Truly. This is the first time I'ved inked student work in decades! When I asked my class how many of their teachers did their own assignments, one student replied "Not enough".
