Quasara: Into the Fletcherverse

(PG; Action Drama) Quasara returns to the Fletcherverse as a seasoned Celestial Ranger to battle a mad scientist and his fire-breathing bat-winged demon shrimps.

Story Notes

This project began after revisiting the 1939-1941 work of Fletcher Hanks, whose Fantomah and Stardust the Super Wizard stories have been described as "divine justice of the weirdo gods." His work was substandard even for the era, yet I'm fascinated by the ferocious eccentricity of his visual language.

Reading the excellent Fantagraphics collections compelled me to create a Fletcher Hanks story with Null Device characters and modern perspective. Satire was one of my goals; mimicking his visual and narrative decisions to expose everything wrong with Hanks and his work. I also needed this to read as a pure Fletcher Hanks story, hinting at his personal shortcomings while retaining his self righteous violence and visual absurdity.

The process was a page-by-page challenge, which I now think was mostly successful. Hope you feel the same.
